  • Laxmi is an Indian Police Service officer who became the first woman police commissioner of Uttar Pradesh on 28 November 2022.
  • Good at academics since childhood, Laxmi bagged rank 2 in Uttar Pradesh in the class tenth board examination.
  • After completing her post-graduation, she started preparing for the civil services examination. In 2000, she passed the exam and became an IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
  • Laxmi was declared the best probationer by the officials while she was receiving her IPS training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
  • Laxmi has served as the SP/SSP in various cities of Uttar Pradesh including Banaras, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Farrukhabad, Baghpat, and Bulandshahar.
  • Known for her speed, accuracy, and efficiency, Laxmi was praised by the Uttar Pradesh government for solving as many as 4,500 pending cases in just three weeks.

  • She was also posted as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in the Special Task Force for some time. She took swift action against criminals during her tenure as the DIG.
  • In 2014, Laxmi was posted as the Deputy Inspector General of Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Meerut and while serving there strained every nerve to keep criminal gangs under a strict check. As the DIG, she carried out several raids in the crime-prone area to arrest some of the most notorious dacoits and their aides. She advocated zero tolerance towards crime.
  • She has also served at posts like DG and ADG in the Uttar Pradesh Police.
  • In 2017, Laxmi headed the Unnao case in which a 21-year-old boy and his teenage associate were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police for allegedly poisoning three Dalit girls, out of which, two had died.
  • Considering her contribution to the Uttar Pradesh Police system, Laxmi was promoted as the Inspector General of Police in the Lucknow range by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in 2019. While serving as the IG, Laxmi led a team of experienced cops that cracked many high-profile criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Thereafter, she was posted as the head of the Police Training School in Meerut for some time and during her tenure she changed the face of the school, converting it into a Center of Excellence. While she was serving as the Principal of PTS, Meerut, the Union Home Ministry rewarded the school with Rs. 2 lakh, declaring PTS as the number one police training institute in India.

  • Later, she was appointed as the nodal officer of Mission Shakti by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.
  • In 2020, she was appointed by the Uttar Pradesh government to carry out an investigation into the role of police personnel in the Kanpur encounter case that claimed the lives of at least eight policemen including DSP Devendra Mishra.
  • On 28 November 2022, she was appointed as the Police Commissioner of Gautam Budh Nagar Commissionerate (Noida), becoming the first women commissioner of Uttar Pradesh. She replaced Alok Singh, who was appointed as the new Director General of Police in Lucknow. Interestingly, Alok Singh was appointed as the first police commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar in 2020, when the commissionerate system was introduced in the district.
